Kirsten Jenna Michaels Interview: Building the Ecosystem She Wished Existed for Other Women

Kirsten Jenna Michaels didn’t set out to build another networking group. Founder and CEO of FEMPOWERMENT, a women’s empowerment movement established in 2025 and based in Dubai, Michaels built the platform around a specific observation she kept running into throughout her life: talented, ambitious women weren’t short on ability. They were short on access. Today, that platform spans a podcast, monthly seminars, networking events, workshops and certifications, a business launchpad, and an annual convention that brings female-owned brands together under one roof.

“For me, entrepreneurship has always been about creating solutions where I saw gaps,” Michaels says. “Throughout my life, I met incredibly talented, ambitious women who had all the potential in the world, but often lacked access to the right network, mentorship, opportunities, or support system to truly flourish. It became clear that talent was never the issue—access was.” That realization became the catalyst for the company. “I didn’t want to build another networking group or another series of events. I wanted to build an ecosystem—one that genuinely helps women grow personally and professionally through education, coaching, strategic partnerships, technology, philanthropy, and community.”

Her underlying belief is that individual success has a way of spreading outward. “FEMPOWERMENT was born from the belief that when women are given the right environment, they don’t just succeed individually—they create ripple effects that strengthen families, businesses, communities, and economies.”

An Ecosystem, Not Just an Events Calendar

Ask Michaels to define FEMPOWERMENT’s core mission, and she frames it in terms of access rather than inspiration alone.

“Our mission is simple but incredibly ambitious: to create an ecosystem where every woman has access to the tools, relationships, and opportunities she needs to reach her fullest potential,” she says. “We want to remove unnecessary barriers by bringing together mentorship, business support, education, wellness, technology, and meaningful community under one platform.” That principle extends to how she thinks about merit itself. “Success should never be determined by who you know or where you started. It should be determined by your willingness to grow.”

Her ambitions for the platform extend well beyond the UAE. “Over the next decade, I hope FEMPOWERMENT becomes a globally recognised ecosystem that empowers millions of women—not just through inspiration, but through practical support, meaningful connections, and opportunities that create lasting impact.” In practice, that ecosystem already includes the Women’s Business Launchpad, which connects members with access to funding, company formation and licensing support, and platform partners for e-commerce and marketplace visibility, alongside a membership structure that bundles workshops, certifications, seminars, networking events, and coaching access into a single monthly rate.

The Real Challenge Isn’t Capability

Michaels has a clear view of what’s actually holding many women back, and it isn’t a lack of skill.

“Women today wear more hats than ever before,” she says. “Many are simultaneously building careers, raising families, launching businesses, caring for loved ones, and trying to prioritise their own wellbeing. One of the greatest challenges isn’t capability—it’s capacity.” She sees a specific expectation trap at play. “Women often feel they have to excel in every area simultaneously, and society has historically placed enormous expectations on what success should look like.”

Her prescription is less about doing more and more about doing it differently. “One of the most important mindset shifts is recognising that success doesn’t come from doing everything alone. It comes from building strong support systems, asking for help when needed, investing in continuous learning, and surrounding yourself with people who genuinely want to see you succeed.” As she puts it plainly: “Community isn’t a luxury—it is a competitive advantage.” It’s a principle that shows up directly in how FEMPOWERMENT is structured, with monthly networking events and seminars built specifically to give women a recurring point of contact with that kind of support system, rather than a single one-off gathering.

What Confidence Actually Requires

Michaels’ view of leadership rejects the idea that confidence means having every answer.

“The best leaders today lead with both strength and empathy,” she says. “Confidence doesn’t mean having all the answers. It means having the courage to make decisions, learn continuously, and remain authentic even under pressure. Exceptional leaders create environments where other people thrive.” Her advice to women entering competitive industries is direct. “Stop waiting until you feel ‘ready.’ Growth happens through action, not perfection. Every opportunity you take before you feel fully prepared becomes part of the confidence you build later.” That belief shows up in how FEMPOWERMENT structures its own coaching offering, which starts with a short discovery session designed specifically to help women identify what’s holding them back before committing to a longer engagement.

Networks Built on Curiosity, Not Transactions

Relationships have shaped Michaels’ own career in ways she traces back to a specific approach to meeting people.

“Relationships have shaped every meaningful opportunity in my career. Business has always been about people,” she says. “The strongest networks aren’t built by collecting business cards—they’re built by creating genuine relationships based on trust, generosity, and consistency.” Her advice for women looking to expand their professional circles is simple. “Lead with curiosity before opportunity. Meet people because you’re interested in who they are, not because of what they can immediately do for you. The opportunities almost always follow.”

AI as an Equalizer, Not a Replacement

With FEMPOWERMENT built partly on technology infrastructure, Michaels has thought carefully about where AI fits into a mission centered on human connection.

“Artificial Intelligence is one of the greatest levellers we’ve seen in decades,” she says. “It gives entrepreneurs access to capabilities that once required entire teams—whether that’s research, productivity, communication, content creation, or business planning.” For women managing multiple responsibilities at once, she sees particular promise. “For many women balancing multiple responsibilities, AI has the potential to become a powerful equaliser by saving time and increasing capacity.”

At FEMPOWERMENT specifically, that philosophy has taken concrete shape. “We don’t see AI as replacing human connection—we see it as strengthening it. Technology should create more space for meaningful conversations, deeper relationships, and higher-value work, not less. That’s why we’ve developed our own AI companion—to support women throughout their day while keeping people, community, and wellbeing at the heart of the experience.” The tool sits alongside the platform’s more traditional offerings, like its podcast and monthly seminars, rather than replacing the human coaching and networking that Michaels sees as the core of the movement.

Resilience Isn’t the Absence of Setbacks

Asked about the most valuable lesson from her own journey, Michaels reframes resilience away from the idea of simply pushing through difficulty.

“Resilience isn’t about never experiencing setbacks. It’s about refusing to allow setbacks to define your future,” she says. “Every challenge has taught me something I couldn’t have learned through success alone.” Her view of progress has become less linear over time. “Progress is rarely linear, and some of your greatest breakthroughs arrive immediately after your biggest moments of uncertainty. That perspective has helped me approach both business and life with greater patience, optimism, and perspective.”

The Daily Habits Behind Long-Term Success

Michaels doesn’t attribute success to any single decision or breakthrough moment.

“Success is rarely created through one big decision. It’s built through consistent daily habits,” she says. “I encourage women to invest in lifelong learning, protect time for reflection, build meaningful relationships, and celebrate progress instead of chasing perfection.” Comparison, in her view, is one of the biggest obstacles to that consistency. “Most importantly, stop comparing your journey to someone else’s. Comparison creates distraction. Purpose creates momentum.”

Building Beyond Events

FEMPOWERMENT’s ambitions go well past its flagship convention and networking calendar, extending into business support, education, and technology.

“We’re building far beyond events,” Michaels says. “Our vision is to create one of the world’s leading women-focused ecosystems by combining community, education, technology, business support, philanthropy, media, and strategic partnerships.” She expects that expansion to accelerate over the coming years. “In the coming years, you’ll see FEMPOWERMENT continue expanding across the GCC and internationally while introducing new technology platforms, educational initiatives, business programmes, wellness experiences, and global partnerships.” Her measure of success is specific. “Our goal is simple: to become the platform women think of first when they’re ready to grow.” Part of that expansion includes the brand’s annual convention, which brings female-owned businesses together for showcases, scouting opportunities, panel discussions, and networking, alongside a growing roster of sponsors and founding partners across beauty, wellness, fashion, tech, and financial services.

Advice for Aspiring Women Entrepreneurs

Asked what she’d tell women hoping to build businesses with real social impact, Michaels’ advice centers on starting before conditions feel ideal.

“Never underestimate the value of starting before everything feels perfect. There will never be a perfect moment,” she says. “Start with what you have. Keep learning. Stay curious. Build relationships. Remain adaptable.” Her closing point reframes what makes a business genuinely powerful. “Always remember that success becomes far more meaningful when it creates opportunities for others. The most powerful businesses don’t simply generate revenue. They create positive change.”

A Philosophy Built on Starting Points, Not Ceilings

Asked for the personal philosophy that has guided her own journey, Michaels returns to an idea that runs through everything else she’s built.

“I’ve always believed that your circumstances should never define your ceiling,” she says. “Where you begin is simply your starting point—not your destination.” Her message to women everywhere is direct. “Don’t wait for permission to pursue the life you envision. Trust your voice. Invest in your growth. Be courageous enough to begin before you have every answer.” She sees a ripple effect in that choice, much like the one she describes at the heart of FEMPOWERMENT’s mission. “Every woman who chooses to step forward doesn’t just change her own future—she inspires countless others to believe they can do the same.”

FEMPOWERMENT was founded in 2025 in Dubai by Kirsten Jenna Michaels alongside co-founder Alexander Sailer, an entrepreneur and philanthropist who brings additional business structure and strategic partnerships to the movement. As Sailer has put it, “When purpose meets people, that’s where real change happens. FEMPOWERMENT is exactly that—a movement that changes lives.” Together, they’ve built the platform around membership, coaching, a business launchpad, and an annual convention aimed at connecting female-owned brands with funding, formation support, and visibility across the UAE and beyond. For Michaels, though, the mission always comes back to the individual woman on the other side of it. “I built FEMPOWERMENT for every woman who was told she was too much,” she says. “You are exactly enough, and this is your space to rise.”
