Mohd Zia Hassan, Chairman of Infinity Group, discussing entrepreneurship and business growth in Dubai

Mohd Zia Hassan Interview: Building Infinity Group and a Diversified Business Empire in Dubai

Mohd Zia Hassan’s Entrepreneurial Journey

My entrepreneurial journey began with a job in sales. It may not sound glamorous, but sales was the best business school I could have attended, and unlike university, the customers gave me an exam every day.

That experience taught me how to communicate, accept rejection, understand people and build trust. Most importantly, it taught me that success does not begin with a great product; it begins with understanding a real need.

In 2010, I took my first major entrepreneurial step by entering the electronics business. Moving from an employee to a business owner was a defining moment because I suddenly became responsible for everything: sales, operations, finances, customer service and problem-solving. When you own a business, even the office printer somehow becomes your responsibility.

After establishing that venture, I expanded into hospitality with Infinity Cafe Lounge and later entered real estate, beauty and personal care, perfumes, events, consultancy, trading and entertainment.

Each new venture shaped me differently. Electronics taught me speed, hospitality taught me customer experience, and real estate taught me the importance of trust and long-term relationships. The journey has not been a straight line, but every challenge has helped me become a more patient, disciplined and adaptable entrepreneur.

Building a Diversified Business Portfolio at Infinity Group

How technology, AI and innovation are shaping the future of businesses across the UAE.

The vision developed gradually. I did not wake up one morning and decide to build businesses across several industries. One successful experience gave me the confidence to explore the next opportunity.

Dubai played an important role in shaping that ambition. It is a city where people from around the world come to live, invest, build companies and create better futures. That creates demand across many sectors—from property and hospitality to lifestyle services, consultancy and entertainment.

I noticed that customers rarely have only one requirement. A person moving to Dubai may need business-setup support, a residence, investment advice, lifestyle services and access to a professional network. That helped inspire my vision for Infinity Group: to develop a connected portfolio of businesses that can serve different aspects of people’s personal and professional lives.

Diversification also provides greater stability. Different industries move through different economic cycles, so a balanced portfolio allows the group to remain resilient. However, diversification should never mean opening businesses simply to increase the number of logos on a company profile. Each venture must have a clear purpose, capable leadership and genuine market demand.

Why Dubai’s Real Estate Market Attracts Global Investors

Dubai offers investors a powerful combination of safety, infrastructure, international connectivity, lifestyle and a business-friendly environment. It has become much more than a temporary destination; increasing numbers of professionals, entrepreneurs and families now see it as a place to establish long-term roots.

The city continues to attract global talent and capital, creating demand across residential, commercial and luxury property segments. Its expanding population, new communities, transport infrastructure and investor-focused policies provide a strong foundation for continued growth.

I believe the market’s next phase will be shaped by sustainable communities, smart buildings, branded residences, flexible payment structures and mixed-use developments that combine living, working and lifestyle experiences.

Investors are also becoming more informed. They are no longer impressed by a beautiful brochure alone—and they should not be. They want to understand location, developer history, rental demand, service charges, payment plans, potential returns and exit strategies.

The best opportunity is not always the most expensive or most heavily advertised property. It is the property that fits the investor’s objective. Our responsibility is to help clients make informed decisions rather than simply sell them a unit.

Leadership Across Multiple Businesses and Industries

The group needs one common direction, but every company requires its own strategy. A real estate company cannot be managed exactly like a café, and a beauty lounge cannot operate like a business consultancy.

Across Infinity Group, I try to maintain consistent values: integrity, customer care, accountability, innovation and respect for people. Those principles should remain the same whether a customer is buying a property, attending an event or visiting one of our lifestyle businesses.

At the same time, I believe in empowering the right leaders. If the chairman tries to approve every small decision, he becomes the company’s biggest traffic jam.

My role is to establish the vision, choose capable people, define performance standards and create accountability. Each management team must then have enough freedom to understand its customers and operate effectively.

We also encourage collaboration across the group. Our companies may serve different industries, but they can still exchange knowledge, networks and opportunities. The balance is to create unity without creating unnecessary control.

How Mohd Zia Hassan Evaluates New Business Opportunities

I begin with a simple question: what genuine problem are we solving?

A new idea can sound exciting in a meeting, especially when it comes with an impressive presentation. But an attractive presentation is not the same as a sustainable business model.

Before entering a sector, I look at market demand, customer behaviour, competition, operational requirements, investment exposure and the strength of the team needed to execute the idea. I also consider whether the opportunity complements our existing portfolio or gives us access to a market with long-term potential.

The people behind the opportunity are equally important. Capital can launch a company, but capable and committed people are what keep it alive.

I also consider the downside. Entrepreneurs naturally become excited about what could go right, but responsible leadership requires examining what could go wrong. If we cannot explain the business clearly, measure its potential and understand its risks, we are not ready to invest.

Sometimes the best business decision is to say no, or at least, “not yet.”

Why the UAE Is Attractive to Entrepreneurs and Investors

The UAE combines ambition with execution. Many countries speak about innovation and growth; the UAE builds the infrastructure and systems needed to support them.

Entrepreneurs benefit from international connectivity, modern infrastructure, access to global talent, a diverse customer base and a government that actively encourages investment and innovation. The country also offers an exceptional level of safety and quality of life, which makes it attractive not only for businesses but also for the families behind those businesses.

Another major advantage is the diversity of the market. You can meet clients, partners and investors from several continents in a single day—sometimes before lunch.

However, opportunity should not be confused with guaranteed success. The UAE is competitive, and customers have high expectations. Entrepreneurs must understand local regulations, respect the culture, manage cash flow carefully and provide genuine value.

Dubai gives people an excellent platform, but a platform is only useful if you are prepared to perform on it.

Technology, AI and Innovation Across Infinity Group

Mohd Zia Hassan: Technology is no longer a separate department; it influences almost every customer interaction.

Within our businesses, we use digital marketing, customer relationship management systems, automation, data analysis and online communication to improve how we attract, understand and serve customers.

In real estate, technology helps us present properties more effectively, respond to enquiries quickly and provide investors with better information. In hospitality and personal care, it can improve reservations, customer feedback, loyalty and personalized communication. In events and entertainment, digital platforms allow us to reach audiences far beyond a physical venue.

Artificial intelligence is also creating exciting opportunities in content development, customer service, lead qualification and operational analysis. However, technology should improve the human experience, not remove the human element.

Customers may appreciate an instant automated response, but when they are making an important decision, they still want to speak with someone who listens and understands. The goal is to use technology to make our teams faster and smarter while keeping relationships personal.

Leadership Lessons From Building Sustainable Businesses

Mohd Zia Hassan: One of the greatest challenges has been learning how to grow without losing control of quality.

When a business expands, the founder can no longer personally supervise every customer interaction or operational decision. That transition can be difficult because entrepreneurs are often emotionally attached to the way things are done.

I had to learn that leadership is not about doing everything yourself. It is about building systems, developing people and creating standards that continue to work even when you are not in the room.

There have also been ventures, decisions and strategies that did not produce the results we expected. Those moments taught me not to become emotionally attached to a plan simply because I created it. The market does not care who made the PowerPoint.

When something is not working, a leader must face the facts, accept responsibility and adjust quickly. Sustainable businesses are not built by avoiding every mistake. They are built by learning faster than the mistake can grow.

The Future Vision for Infinity Group

How technology, AI and innovation are shaping the future of businesses across the UAE.

Mohd Zia Hassan: My vision is to develop Infinity Group into a stronger, more structured and internationally recognized group of companies.

Growth will not be measured only by how many ventures we own. It will be measured by the quality of our businesses, the strength of our teams, the trust of our customers and the value we create in every market we enter.

Real estate will continue to play an important role, particularly as Dubai expands and attracts more international investors. We also see opportunities in hospitality, business consultancy, consumer brands, events, digital media and services that support international mobility and entrepreneurship.

Entertainment will remain personally important to me. Through platforms such as Infinity Unplugged and Infinity Talks, we want to give emerging talent a stage and create meaningful conversations with entrepreneurs, artists and public personalities.

Geographical expansion may also become part of our next chapter, but it must happen with discipline. Entering a new country simply to place another pin on the map is not a strategy. We want to build scalable businesses with strong governance, responsible leadership and long-term relevance.

Mohd Zia Hassan’s Advice for Entrepreneurs in the UAE

Start with one business and make it work properly.

Many aspiring entrepreneurs speak about building an empire before they have served their first customer. Ambition is important, but ambition without execution is just an expensive daydream.

Learn how to sell, because every entrepreneur is selling something: a product, a service, a vision or confidence in the future. Understand your numbers, protect your reputation and choose your partners carefully.

Do not expand because you are bored. Expand when your first business has capable leadership, working systems and the financial strength to support the next step.

I would also advise entrepreneurs to remain humble enough to learn. The market changes constantly, and yesterday’s success does not guarantee tomorrow’s relevance. Listen to customers, respect your employees and never allow your lifestyle to grow faster than your business.

Most importantly, build for the long term. Quick success may attract attention, but consistency creates trust—and trust is what creates a lasting business group.

The Philosophy Guiding Mohd Zia Hassan’s Entrepreneurial Journey

My principle has always been: keep moving forward, but never forget why you started.

Business will bring success, setbacks, applause and criticism. If you allow every good day to make you overconfident and every difficult day to make you give up, you will never build anything meaningful.

I try to remain ambitious but grounded. I believe in treating people with respect, keeping my word and learning from every experience. Money can help you open a business, but character determines whether people will continue doing business with you.

I also remind myself that no achievement is the final destination. The moment you believe you know everything, business usually finds a creative way to prove otherwise.

For me, entrepreneurship is a continuous journey of building, learning and creating opportunities—not only for myself, but also for the people who grow with us.
