Founder of Woman Business Circle, Business Gate, and the I Am Africa Platform on building ecosystems across continents, empowering women entrepreneurs, and why collaboration is the key to everything
Some people build careers. Laila El Atfani has built a complete ecosystem. Over a journey of entrepreneurship, diplomacy, philanthropy, and global business development, the Dubai-based Ambassador has remained anchored to one unwavering principle, and that is humanity first.
She is the Founder and CEO of Woman Business Circle, Business Gate Circle, and the I Am Africa Platform. She serves as Goodwill Ambassador of AACID, Ambassador of Art and Culture, and Head of Diplomacy and Protocol at WPC. Not only this, she is also holding roles across organizations in the United States, Switzerland, Morocco, Cambodia, Indonesia, and beyond.
Her network is genuinely global, and she has used it to open doors for women entrepreneurs, SMEs, startups, and emerging leaders who would otherwise have had to find their own way through systems that are not designed to welcome them.
Her message is simple and direct: collaboration is the key to success. Everything she has built reflects that belief.

Ambassador Laila El Atfani on the Journey That Shaped Her Mission
Laila El Atfani’s career did not follow a straight line. It moved across different fields and different parts of the world, gathering experience in entrepreneurship, diplomacy, philanthropy, and global trade. What held it together was not a plan, but a principle.
“My journey was full of challenges and learning. It has all been guided by one principle: humanity first, and build impact beyond borders.”
The defining moment came when she understood something that changed everything: success is not measured by personal achievement alone. It is measured by the number of lives and opportunities you help create along the way.
“Build dreams and empower women and young generations for a better future.”
That became her mission, and it still is.
Three Platforms, One Shared Vision
When Ambassador Laila El Atfani founded Woman Business Circle, Business Gate, and the I Am Africa Platform, she was not simply creating organizations. She was building ecosystems. Each was designed to connect people, build opportunities, and open markets across borders.
Woman Business Circle was created to empower women entrepreneurs, executives, and changemakers by giving them access to networks, mentorship, investment opportunities, and international visibility. The focus has always been on startup women and emerging leaders who have the talent and drive but need the doors opened.
Business Gate was designed as a strategic bridge between businesses and global stakeholders, facilitating partnerships that accelerate economic growth, innovation, and cross-border trade, with a particular focus on SMEs and startups that need support to scale internationally.
The I Am Africa Platform came from something deeper: a genuine belief in Africa’s immense and often underestimated potential. It was built to showcase African talent, entrepreneurship, and investment opportunities, and to create stronger connections between Africa and the broader global business community.
“At the heart of all three platforms is a shared mission, and that is to democratize access to opportunities, push inclusive economic development, and empower individuals and businesses to thrive on a global scale.”
Her greatest achievement, she says, is witnessing entrepreneurs transform ideas into successful enterprises that create jobs, drive innovation, and contribute to sustainable growth.

Ambassador Laila El Atfani on What Makes International Partnerships Last
After years of building partnerships across cultures and industries, Laila El Atfani has a clear view of what makes them last and what makes them fall apart.
Trust is the foundation. Without credibility, transparency, and accountability, even the most promising partnership cannot survive; a principle central to building a successful startup in the GCC. Cultural intelligence is equally critical; understanding diverse business practices and local market dynamics is what allows relationships to be genuinely meaningful rather than superficial.
The third pillar is a shared long-term vision, which is what transforms a partnership from a transactional agreement into a strategic alliance capable of weathering difficulty.
“The most successful partnerships are those that combine economic objectives with mutual respect, innovation, and a commitment to creating positive impact; the same discipline required in cross-border business expansion across communities and industries.”
In the end, she puts it simply: you just need to be with the right partners.
What Women Entrepreneurs Still Face Today
The conversation around women in business has shifted significantly, and Laila El Atfani has watched that change from the inside. The challenge used to be about capital above everything else. Today the landscape is more advanced, but the barriers remain real.
Women entrepreneurs continue to face difficulty accessing capital, securing investment, entering high-level decision-making circles, and gaining international market visibility. The issue is no longer about talent or capability. Women around the world are building innovative, impactful businesses every day.
“The challenge is no longer about talent or capability. It is about access and opportunity.”
Empowerment, she insists, must move beyond symbolism. It must translate into measurable economic participation, sustainable growth, and genuine leadership influence. Stronger financial inclusion, targeted investment in women-led enterprises. Also, strategic mentorship and real representation in leadership ecosystems are not optional; they are essential. The goal is financial freedom, and anything short of that is not enough.

Business Diplomacy as a Force for Global Cooperation
One of Ambassador Laila El Atfani’s most powerful convictions is that business and diplomacy are not separate worlds. In today’s global economy, they are deeply intertwined, and business diplomacy has become one of the most effective tools for building international cooperation.
When governments, private sectors, investors, and institutions work together through economic partnerships. They create shared interests that naturally encourage stability, innovation, and long-term development. Business diplomacy builds bridges in places where politics alone may face limitations, much like a well-planned international business expansion strategy.
“In the end, business diplomacy comes to serve humanity and society, bridging economy and culture for greater exchanges.”
This is not theory for her. It is something she has lived through her own work across regions and organizations, and the conversations happening at the intersection of business and diplomacy, she believes, are some of the most important ones taking place in the world right now.
The Middle East and Africa: The Next Decade Belongs to Them
Ask Laila El Atfani about the future of the Middle East and Africa, and her answer is unhedged. These regions are the future.
Driven by digital transformation, economic diversification, and one of the world’s most dynamic young populations, both regions hold immense potential across technology, artificial intelligence, renewable energy, logistics, tourism, education, and healthcare. Governments and the private sector are increasingly committed to investing in future-focused, sustainable economies, and the momentum is real.
“The world should no longer view the Middle East and Africa as emerging markets alone. They are rapidly positioning themselves as influential economic hubs that will shape global growth, innovation, and investment in the decades ahead.”
She points to the UAE and Morocco as examples of what is possible when vision meets investment, and the world is paying attention.
Ambassador Laila El Atfani on AI and the Human Difference
Laila El Atfani does not shy away from the scale of change artificial intelligence is bringing. If something, she embraces it, while being clear about where the real competitive advantage lies.
AI is already transforming business operations across every sector, accelerating productivity, improving customer experiences, and creating entirely new business models. But technology alone, she argues, is not the differentiator.
“The real differentiator will be leaders who successfully combine artificial intelligence with human intelligence. Bringing together innovation, creativity, ethics, emotional intelligence, and strategic judgment.”
The future does not belong to those who replace people with technology. It belongs to those who use technology to empower people. That distinction, for her, matters the most.

Leadership Philosophy: We, Not I
If there is one word that captures Laila El Atfani’s approach to leadership, it is this: “We”.
Her philosophy is built on collective vision rather than individual ambition. Successful leaders, she believes, create opportunities for others, embrace cultural diversity, and build meaningful connections across industries and borders. Leadership is not about titles or authority; it is about influence, responsibility, and the ability to inspire people toward a shared purpose.
“My leadership philosophy is always WE. Together, one mission. Build vision, integrity, resilience, and collaboration. One heart, one mission, one vision, with humanity, for success.”
Her measure of success is not personal. It is collective. Success is when others succeed together toward one shared goal.
What Ambassador Laila El Atfani Tells the Next Generation
When she speaks to young entrepreneurs, and especially to young women, she starts from the inside out.
“Believe in yourself without ego. Begin with purpose, not pressure. Build a vision that creates value, solves real problems, and contributes positively to society.”
She encourages continuous investment in knowledge and skills and is clear that sustainable growth is built on strong foundations, not shortcuts. Mentors matter. Integrity and reputation matter more than almost anything else over the long run.
To young women and emerging leaders in particular, her message is direct: believe in your voice, think beyond geographical boundaries, and lead with confidence, courage, and a global perspective.
And she adds something that comes from lived experience: stop envy, stop jealousy. Empower others instead. Be tolerant. Trade always in the currency of kindness and humanity. That, she says, is what actually lasts.
